Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Racial Justice Toolkit for Civil Legal Aid Organizations
Transform Belonging founder Lauren Lofton is the primary author of a one of a kind diversity, equity, inclusion & racial justice toolkit for civil legal aid organizations. Lauren authored the document while serving as the Program Attorney for Legal Aid Association of California. The document has been designed intentionally to be a living document and may be updated annually. Lauren provided additional support to finalize production of the toolkit in 2020 as well as volunteering to serve as a speaker at the toolkit launch events as legal aid programs sought to address the civil rights movement of 2020. The toolkit has been shared with more than 100 California legal aid programs & community non-profit organizations as well as organizations nationally.
Lauren would like to also highlight:
LAAC’s now Senior Program and Technology Coordinator Theo Ser-Ramin’s work and collaboration throughout the creation of the document including substantive work on written content in 2019 as well as ongoing production, outreach, event planning and the toolkit launch in 2020
LAAC’s now Senior Attorney Zack Newman for drafting and research during the final stages of producing the toolkit in 2020
Derrius Jones, former Racial Justice Coordinator for his work on outreach, event planning and shaping the work in 2020 in advance of the toolkit launch in 2020
A PDF of the Toolkit is available here.
The toolkit is also hosted on the LAAC diversity initiatives webpage here. The LAAC hosted link is here, but is sometimes glitchy. Transform Belonging is hosting free access to the PDF for those who may experience an issue with the LAAC hosted document. Transform Belonging Founder designed the toolkit to be free and open source as well as a “living and breathing” document that may be periodically changed and updated by LAAC. If you are referencing the PDF please know it is a snapshot in time and reach out to LAAC to confirm if there is an updated document available.
